Good Samaritans help out

GOOD Samaritans have reached out to assist Basden College, a New Town-based school.

Members of the God Servant Leaders (GSL) charity organisation from Australia have managed to provide the seven-year-old school with computers, desks, chairs and home economics equipment ranging from washing machines and microwave ovens to cooking stoves and gym training equipment.

School principal Mika Mudreilagi said since opening its doors to accommodate students for its first Year 13 level, the school has been thankful to volunteers from Australia who have been kind enough to assist.

After the introduction of the Year 13, the school roll increased tremendously from 156 last year to 203 students this year.

"We are still working on the home economics room and after the official opening, that would mark the school's first home economics classroom," Mr Mudreilagi said

The school management had bought six shipping containers and converted them into classrooms with two containers making one room.

The six containers will now make a Year 13 classroom, a Home Economics classroom, a welding port and storeroom.

"GSL had bought 30 chairs and 24 desks for our Year 13 students.

"And the teaching tools are also donations from GSL."
