Wednesday, February 05, 2014

OF the 15 cases listed yesterday in the High Court in Suva 10 were either of rape or sexual assault.

A villager pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting a girl from the same village.

The villager admitted to the facts and was convicted. He will be sentenced later.

In another case, a 16-year-old youth charged with rape denied a count of rape and another of sexual assault before Justice Janaka Bandara.

Two separate cases from Nausori were also heard in the same courtroom.

In both cases, the accused pleaded not guilty to rape.

Yesterday afternoon a trial started for an accused who allegedly raped his defacto partner.

The accused has been in custody for more than eight months.
