Shrine for an angel

GEORGINA Work, 4, was a joyful, smart girl and always smiling.

These were words of teachers at the Twinkle Stars Preschool and Daycare Service at Flagstaff in Suva.

Georgina died instantly when she was allegedly struck by a four-wheel car last Sunday on Varani St in Laucala Bay. Georgina's parents and elder sister who were also involved in the incident were rushed to the CWM Hospital.

They were on their way to the car with three other family members after attending mass at the Laucala Bay Parish in Suva when they were struck down.

Preschool owner Aron Jivaratnam said they were still trying to come to terms with Georgina's death.

"Every word she said still rings in our ears," Mr Jivaratnam said.

"She was a lovely little girl."

He said Georgina joined Twinkle Stars three years ago and that this would have been her final year before joining primary school.

Mr Jivaratnam said they were not aware of her death until some parents informed them on Monday. To honour their friend and classmate, the students have put up a little shrine of candles and flowers in front of the school.

A man in his 80s has been charged with her death.
