Dredging saves town

Jone Kalouniviti
Saturday, February 01, 2014

THE people of Ba believe dredging saved the town from flooding.

With the adverse weather passing and water levels remaining low, they are grateful that the government dredged the river last year.

Resident Samuela Kautoga said after continuous rain on Wednesday night, they expected the river to overflow and flood the town.

"Based on our past experiences it should have been under water after all that heavy rainfall," he said.

"We want to thank the government for finally heeding our requests last year to dredge the river.

"We now see that the river has held and not broke its banks despite the heavy rain over two days."
