By SHAYAL DEVI
Thursday, January 30, 2014

Update: 4:35PM ALL government operation in Rakiraki has been suspended until further notice.

This is after floodwaters rose this afternoon, prompting all businesses to close early, forcing people to leave the town before 6pm.

Ra provincial administrator Kelepi Kubunameca said rainfall had intensified during the day.

"All the shops have closed and hardly anyone in town," he said.

Three evacuation centres in Rakiraki have also been put on standby.
