Awards for rural designers

ABOUT 1000 women's groups have been established in more than three years through the gifting of sewing machines by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation.

At the launch of the first National Women's Expo 2014 — Rural Women's Designer Awards, minister Dr Jiko Luveni said the sewing machine project produced a wide range of rural women designers.

She said about 3000 women looked forward to the event because it provided a platform where they could showcase their domestic skills.

"This event will go down in history as the first ever major national women's exposition with special focus on the rural women's designer awards".
