Lifters set benchmark

WEIGHTLIFTING Fiji will be using last year's success as a benchmark to overcome the challenging 2014 season.

President Sharlene Nand said they had a very successful 2013.

"With the lifters' focus, determination and hard work and the administrators' tireless and unfailing support and not forgetting the paperwork being submitted as the deadlines grew closer, Weightlifting Fiji had climbed greater heights and achieved a lot in 2013," she said.

"And with the support of the media, weightlifting and Weightlifting Fiji started to become a known sport in Fiji as it gained regional and international limelight through its participation and achievement."

Nand said one of their major achievements last year was the construction of a new High Performance Centre in Levuka.

"Weightlifting Fiji looks forward to another challenging and successful year ahead."

Achievements (2013)

Oceania Championships, Brisbane, Australia: Ulina Sagone three gold medals; Fiji Sports Awards: 11 Categories — Weightlifting Fiji submitted seven nominations and won five awards: Sportswoman of the Year - Maria Liku, Technical Official of the Year - Della Shaw, Administrator of the Year - Lilian Amasa, Sports Team of the Year - Weightlifting Fiji, Sports Organisation of the Year - Weightlifting Fiji; Pacific Games Council 2012/2013 Pacific Sports Awards for Outstanding Sports Administrator of the Year- Lilian Amasa; Pacific Mini Games, Wallis and Futuna four athletes - three gold and three silver medals
