Magistrate remands man

A MAN charged with assault and criminal intimidation has been told to get a surety to the Suva Magistrates Court today if he wants bail.

Amitesh Lal is alleged to have assaulted a woman and allegedly told her he would hurt her child to scare her.

The prosecution objected to bail on the ground that Mr Lal had committed the offence while out on bail for a similar offence.

The defence counsel told the court the accused was innocent until proven guilty and that Mr Lal had no travel documents and strict conditions could be put in place to ensure good behaviour.

Magistrate Sufia Hamza remanded Mr Lal so a surety could come to court today.
