Four injured in crash

Update: 4:12PM LUNCH hour traffic along Ratu Mara Road was diverted this afternoon following a car accident that involved three taxis and a truck.

The accident occurred at the junction of Shalimar Street a little after midday.

Witnesses said a white taxi - with four passengers, two adults and their two children  travelling from Suva - had stopped at the junction of Shalimar Street waiting to turn in.

The driver of the truck, also travelling from Suva, was speeding and did not slow down.

Witnesses said the truck went on top of the taxi and crushed the vehicle.

Two other taxis travelling from the opposite direction swerved to avoid the crash and were  involved in a separate accident.

The driver and two passengers in the truck escaped uninjured while the passengers and the driver in the white taxi were rescued by bystanders and firefighters.

They were rushed to the CWM Hospital, in critical condition.
