Lautoka ready for West tourney

THE Lautoka Volleyball Association is confident of winning the Western Rally competition to be held at Lautoka's multi-purpose court this weekend.

The association will be fielding four teams against the best in the West in their bid to defend their turf.

Association official Semisi Vunibola said Lautoka would field a combination of experience and young players in their teams.

He said the women's teams would face strong challenges from defending champion Nadi which boasted the services of former national reps Ana Seniloli, Finau Waqa and Rebecca Lasaqa.

Vunibola said the Sugar City women would also have some former national reps such as Teresia Vunibola.

"We are aware of the strength of the Nadi team but we also have faith in our players," he said.

"Our players have been reminded to play to their best and defend our turf.

"The Western Rally is an opportune time for our girls to stamp its authority in West volleyball and the onus is on the team to show their worth."

Former national skipper Mesulame Metuisela is expected to spearhead Lautoka's campaign in the men's division.

Vunibola said the former national rep had been impressive during the past weeks of competition and would be the player to watch for Lautoka.

"We are the best in the West but will not underestimate any team. Our aim to treat every game as a final," he added.
