FIJI Revenue and Customs Authority officer Deepak Kumar is the 2013 Fijian Host of the Year.

Mr Kumar said the honour presented to him by Attorney-General and Minister for Tourism Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in Nadi was special.

"I feel very proud to win this award and I am honoured to be representing FRCA and the frontline officials as a whole," he said.

Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum commended Mr Kumar and his fellow Fijian Host nominees for their outstanding roles in representing Fiji to international visitors.

"A person's experience at the airport can set the tone for their entire visit to Fiji, and so we expect them to receive the very best levels of service from the moment they step off the plane," said Mr Sayed-Khaiyum.

"Mr Kumar's performance sets a benchmark of excellence at Nadi Airport for all frontline staff."

The FRCA officer — previously the award winner for the month of October — wins a trip for two to Sydney as a guest of Fiji Airways, including accommodation for two at the Sydney Sheraton on the Park courtesy of Starwood Resorts Fiji.

He will receive a trophy from the Prime Minister at the AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards which will be held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on February 21.

Four other frontline staff at Nadi International Airport were presented awards in recognition of their hard work and superior customer service.

Outstanding service awards were presented to Viliame Waqaninavatu of Border Police and Rusiate Waqa of Airports Fiji Limited for going above and beyond the call of duty by demonstrating exceptional customer service in 2013.
