FRESH out of college and with only nine months as a human resources officer at the Fiji Electricity Authority, Prabhashni Singh never expected to receive the organisation's Employee of the Quarter Award.
It was a surprise for her as she scooped the coveted prize at FEA's Employee of the Quarter awards ceremony at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel on Saturday.
But the 21-year-old says her hard work and support from her colleagues had helped her to settle into her job.
"I am thrilled to win," she said.
"This is motivation for me to do better and excel at my work."
FEA's human resources general manager Naveen Lakshmaiya said one of the aims of the awards ceremony was to bring employees together in pursuit of enhancing their service.
"To achieve efficient results, employees need to embrace total cost reduction and enhance quality competitiveness across the organisation," he said.
"The new year is a time for us to reflect upon the year gone by, the successes and achievements as well as the lapses and shortcomings.
"It provides an opportunity to reassess ourselves and to plan ahead, taking corrective action and setting new goals."
He said the ceremony was a time for the employees to reconfirm the commitment towards the human resources department.
"We have a new challenge of achieving the vision of what we want to be. Let's all show the spirit and enthusiasm in taking a solid first step toward our goal. As a team, this is an occasion to unite and embrace ourselves for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead."
Mr Lakshmaiya said the award function was also a way to reward the employees.
"Awards of this nature motivate, inspire and give employees an opportunity to make a difference in the workforce."
