Mawalu helps Yamacia

FORMER national 7s flyer Mosese Mawalu scored two tries to help his Yamacia team win the Lomavata 7s defeating Westfield Tokatoka Babas 27-12 at Lautoka Churchill Park yesterday.

The Bukuya native from Ba highland lit up the final with blistering speed that earned him a spot in the last leg of the IRB 7s series.

Mawalu provided the much needed spark in the Yamacia team and his experience and pace was a thorn to the opposition.

He combined well with his teammates to bounce back from their loss at the Uluinakau 7s in Nausori last week and stamp its dominance in the local 7s competition.

The side ran riot in the first spell scoring four unanswered tries to lead 20-0.

Westfield came back strongly in the second spell scoring three tries to Yamacia's one but it was not enough to win them the game.

Yamacia coach James Lancaster said tough defence were the main contributing factor to their success.

He said his players had also improved on their discipline something that let them down in Nausori a fortnight ago.

They won the game through their defence and good discipline, back in Nausori we had few people being shown with yellow cards but today we showed good discipline," said Lancaster.

"We managed to control the game which was to our advantage."

In the semi- final Yamacia defeated Tale Babas 10-5 while Westfield narrowly won 10-7 against Jona Turavu's captained-Natabua team.
