LAUTOKA'S 2008 Inter District Championship winning coach Dennis Singh is keen to get the Blues out of the doldrums and set a new pathway to achieve glory.
Singh rejoins the Design Engineering-sponsored team as head coach upon the request of Lautoka Football Association patron Babu Rattan Deo.
The former national rep was terminated in September 2009 for bringing Lautoka Football Association into disrepute for not attending an executive meeting after being sent on leave.
Singh said he had left those issues behind and was focused on the 2014 season.
"There are some administrational issues that are being sorted out," he said.
"But we will not let those affect the players. Fitness is one of the areas to work on. Interim coach Bakalevu Mocemerake has done a good job training the players in the off season.
"It is good that they had a program going. I would rate the boys to be 80 per cent fit and for this time of the season it is satisfactory.
"A lot needs to be done to get the team to where it was when I left. There will be a lot of hard work. Sacrifice will be needed."
With Singh taking up the coaching position Mocemerake will become the team manager.
Singh rated Lautoka's 2013 IDC result as pathetic.
He said they had lost some aspiring players from 2009 to other districts.
"We will work out a plan to get Lautoka back on track. Last year's performance in the IDC was pathetic recording only one point in pool play.
"We had a few young players back in 2008 and 2009 like Abbu Zahid Shaheed, Poasa Bainivalu and Samuela Drudru who left and are performing for other districts. We are working on the materials that we have.
"Some senior players are not attending training. We are not bothered about them. We will not be going by the names.
"This year will be different. My request to the fans is to give us some breathing space.
"We need the support of everyone to rebuild the team."
Lautoka will play Nadroga in the Fiji Sun/Skipper Tuna National Football League at 3pm at Lawaqa Park tomorrow.
