Drunk driving

A YOUNG man pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor and agreed he did not have a driver's licence. Shahil Sami told the Suva court he was sorry for his actions. The defence counsel asked the court not to enter a conviction as this would hinder his education.

Positive move

THE Suva Magistrates Court has been told Ashneel Chand is willing to take a progressive approach to his case by pleading guilty to a theft charge if the burglary charge is withdrawn. The court told the prosecution to consider the matter and come back on the next court date with an answer.

Theft charge

A MAN charged with conspiracy and theft will appear in court again to fix a hearing date. Melvin Verma has pleaded not guilty to both counts. The court was informed yesterday that full disclosures including the agreed facts have been served. The case will be called again on March 4.

Not guilty

IT was a not guilty plea by a man to a count of robbery and one of absconding bail. Timoci Baleilevuka allegedly robbed a taxidriver of $4, his mobile phone and the taxi meter. He allegedly also failed to come to court last October while out on bail. The case resumes next month.

Man overseas

THE Suva court has been told a complainant in an assault case could not be contacted as he'd migrated. Chand Pratap is charged with assault. The prosecution said there had been many attempts to contact the complainant. The defence applied to discharge the accused.
