Accused to take plea

By Shalveen Chand
Friday, January 17, 2014

A MAN charged with attempted rape on Gau Island has been told he will have to take a plea next time he appears in court.

The man allegedly committed the offence last year.

The charges were read to him in court yesterday after the court said the accused was in court to take a plea.

When his legal rights were explained to him, the man opted for the help of the Legal Aid Commission.

Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili asked the man if he was on bail.

When he replied that he was, the magistrate then asked him why he had not made any attempt to visit the Legal Aid Commission.
