Baarroon to defend junior title

NADI'S Baarroon Hussain will defend the John Cooper Junior Golf Championship which starts at the Fiji Golf Club on Thursday.

Hussain is the top contender for the title having just returned from Melbourne after participating in the Australian Master of Amateurs Championship.

It was the first overseas tournament for Hussain and he finished at the bottom of the leader board.

National Golf Association of Fiji secretary Amitesh Chandra said Baarroon would be the player to beat.

Chandra said the best junior golfers from around the country would battle for top honours.

"Entry for the tournament is free," Chandra said.

"The aim is promote grassroots development and our sponsor Srixon Cleveland is part of this."

Hassain will face stiff competition from Fiji Golf Club member Jiju Leca and fellow Nadi golfers Ratu Meli and Divesh Kumar.

Leca participated in the Greg Norman Junior Masters in Brisbane last month where he missed the cut.
