OUTRIGGER on the Lagoon Fiji has stepped in to assist the Fiji Kids organisation in promoting education in rural areas.

Resort general manager Peter Hopgood said the assistance provided by the organisation was one of the best packages any student in Fiji could have dreamt for.

"It is one of the best things I have seen while in Fiji where all the sponsors come from different parts of Australia and over the world and support the poor in Sigatoka," he said.

"It's wonderful to see these children are provided the support right from the time they start school to graduation level.

"The volunteers and sponsors are outstanding people who gave their time and money for the betterment of these less fortunate students.

"This is worthy cause and I really support the idea."

Mr Hopgood said the resort had also teamed up with the organisation in the construction of a kitchen of one poor family in Nadroga.

"We are also building a toilet and bathroom for the Conua District School with more assistance planned for the year."

The resort hosted about 300 people including the Fiji Kids volunteers, sponsored children and their parents to refreshments and lunch in Sigatoka yesterday.

Fiji Kids founder Julie Hoskins thanked the resort for hosting the students and parents.

"We have about 20 overseas sponsors this year, we thank Mr Peter Hopgood and his team for providing us with the lunch, refreshments and support for the wellbeing of the young people in Fiji."
