AT least 400 new students are expected to enrol at the University of Fiji this semester.

And according to departing vice-chancellor Dr Chandra Dulare, more students are expected to sign up with the application process still in progress.

"This is an increase from last year," Dr Dulare said.

Nine new programs are also expected to be introduced at the university this year, including nursing and teaching.

The new programs include a Postgraduate Diploma in Hindi Literature, Postgraduate Certificate in Peacekeeping, Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Management and Combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws.

Dr Dulare also said there were plans to expand the Suva campus.

"A new building with a new library and a lecture theater will be constructed at the Samabula campus.

"The current construction at the Saweni campus will be completed before the beginning of the 2014 academic year."
