Mill repairs to benefit farmers

Salaseini Moceiwai
Saturday, January 11, 2014

REWA Rice Limited in Dreketi, Macuata, has closed for maintenance work.

Manager Ashrit Pratap said they had ordered new parts for the mill generator from Australia and expect to receive them tomorrow.

"We expect to carry out maintenance throughout the whole of next week," Mr Pratap said.

"The mill is not entirely closed, it's just going through a maintenance period."

Some rice farmers had expressed concern at the closure of the mill, claiming their paddies had piled up in their farms for weeks.

Farmer Dinesh Lal said he was worried his paddies would go to a waste because they had been on his farm for about three weeks.

Mr Pratap had requested the farmers to bear with them until they complete the maintenance.

"Once we complete repairing the mill, the farmers can bring their paddies in.

"But right now, we are requesting them to give us time to finish our work because it will benefit these rice growers.

"We want to ensure the mill is well repaired, so we don't encounter problems later in the year."
