TRADE unionist Daniel Urai and five Sheraton Fiji Resort and Spa staff members have denied a charge relating to their involvement in an alleged strike on New Year's Eve last year.

Mr Urai, Peni Finau, Isei Levula, Isikeli Gavidi, Merewai Vocevoce and Simione Masicola were arrested earlier this week and each charged with one count of participating in an unlawful strike.

They appeared before Magistrate Kashyapa Wickeramaseka and were represented by Aman Ravindra-Singh.

They denied allegations they were part of an unlawful strike on December 31 in which about 300 hotel staff from Sheraton Fiji Resort and Spa and Westin Denarau Island Resort were involved. The matter has been adjourned to March 17 for further disclosures to be submitted to the defence.
