Farmers prepare

JUST 11 days into the new year, some canefarmers in the Northern Division have wasted no time preparing for the new season.

The farmers were seen cleaning and replanting on their farms yesterday.

Anil Deo, of Waiqele said he had already started work on his farm.

"This is the time when we clean, fertilise and take care of our yield so we can have good production come crushing season," he said.

About 62,000 tonnes of sugar were produced last year compared with 44,500 tonnes produced in 2012.
