TC Ian poses no threat to Fiji yet

Update: 1:58PM TROPICAL Cyclone Ian, situated to the South East of Lakeba poses no threat to the Fiji Group at the present time, says acting weather director Aminiasi Tuidraki.

However, he said the fact that the system developed from a tropical depression to a tropical cyclone relatively quickly and was intensifying was of concern.

Special weather bulletins are being issued for Vavau and Hapai which are the closest to the cyclone and we will know more over the next 24 to 48 hours, he said.

Mr Tuidraki said TC Ian was the reason for the intense heat being experienced around the country.
