THOUSANDS of people around the country rung in the new year in their own fashion on Tuesday night with some attending various street parties organised for the night while others chose to spend it with friends and family.

In Suva, people packed Albert Park and the My Suva Picnic Park in Muanikau to attend the two street parties organised by Communications Fiji Limited and the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.

The Western and Northern divisions also got in on the good times with their own street parties.

And in spite of the large gatherings, much of the celebrations went without a hitch much to the pleasure of the police charged with keeping law and order.

Police chief operations officer ACP Rusiate Tudravu said he was grateful that all street parties were incident-free.
