TIGHT police patrol on New Year's Eve resulted in safe celebrations in the North.
In Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni and Seaqaqa where public celebrations were held, the police maintained security ensuring everyone enjoyed the last hours of 2013.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the North reported no major incident related to the new year's celebrations .
"It was safe and quiet in the North and we must thank the public for abiding by the laws and celebrating New Year's Eve in a safe manner," she said.
"There have been no major reports from the North relating to the New Year's Eve celebrations, and a contributing factor was the police presence."
