SPECIAL administrator Vijay Chand has called on the people of Labasa to work together and develop the town.
As part of his message for the new year, Mr Chand said it was important for the people of the friendly town to work in unity to move Labasa forward.
"That is very important and I would like to see this happening this year," he said.
"We all have our roles to play in developing the town and everyone should contribute.
"The government is bringing developments to the North, so it is only proper that we play our part and support the government in its move to develop Vanua Levu.
"Tertiary institutions for educational opportunities are opening up for our children, so let's make good use of these developments."
Mr Chand also spoke at the first street party held on Labasa Town's main street on new year's eve and urged everyone to work together.
"Thank you all for turning up in huge numbers and this means that everyone is united and can come together to welcome the new year.
"With this unity, we can work together and move Labasa forward. Your unity shows a great bonding between the different communities that exist in our northern town.
"We will continue with this spirit of oneness into the new year and work together to develop Labasa."
Mr Chand also urged the business community to work with the council to boost growth in the town.
