In a statement, Rugby House said: "On behalf of the FRU board of directors, management, staff , acting CEO and board director Dr Berlin Kafoa conveyed their condolences to the family of Ratu Tasere.

"Ratu Isikeli Tasere hailed from the province of Nadroga and played for the Lomavata club.

"The former Flying Fijian prop played 13 games for the Flying Fijians and earned four Test caps.

"His Test debut was on 11 June 1974, against the New Zealand XV at Buckhurst Park in Suva.

"A gentleman who had rugby at heart, Ratu Tasere will be sorely missed at Rugby House.

"May God comfort his family in their time of sorrow."

Ratu Isikeli was elected as FRU president in 2011 while heading the Nadroga Rugby Union.

He stepped down as NRU president last year, giving way to former Stallion Tiko Matawalu to lead the union.

He is survived by his three children and wife Kelesita.
