A CHINESE national charged with obstructing and assaulting a police officer was told to surrender his travel documents and post a $1000 cash bail.
Guan Xia Juan, 27, was first brought to court yesterday morning but the absence of an interpreter prompted the standing down of the case.
Mr Guan allegedly obstructed a police officer on Monday who was booking a woman for a traffic offence. He is alleged to have jumped in and assaulted the police officer in the process.
The police prosecution objected to bail initially, saying Mr Guan was a flight risk as he had only been in the country for eight months.
The court ordered Mr Guan to surrender his travel documents and pay a cash bail of $1000. He was also ordered to produce a surety.
Mr Guan was kept overnight at the Central Police Station and will be produced in a special court sitting today.
