THE Labasa Town Council will prioritise the repairing of the drains within the town area next year.
Council senior health inspector Mohammed Faiz Ali told heads of government departments at a meeting in Labasa on Monday they were working on improving the system.
"Our drains lacked proper maintenance for many years and it's time we fix them accordingly," he said.
"We have recruited a new officer who is looking after our drainage system. Now, we are working closely with the Water Authority on the upgrading of our sewer line systems.
"Most of the lines and pipes are just beside the drains and whenever there is a system failure, the water overflows into the drains.
"We are working with WAF to fix this problem."
