THE construction of nine lighthouses in the Natovi and Nabouwalu passage is among capital projects tabled out by the Works Department for next year.
This was revealed at the heads of department meeting in Labasa on Monday.
In his presentation, the department's acting construction engineer northern, Inoke Falepau, said capital projects scheduled for next year included the extension of the Wainunu Health Centre and the upgrading of quarters at the Bagasau Health Centre.
"Our plan also covers the upgrading of the Taveuni courthouse and the reconstruction of the courthouse in Nabouwalu," Falepau said.
"For the group maintenance, we are looking at repairing the Nabouwalu government quarters, the Vatunibale group 3A quarters, the Wainigata research station and the Nabauto quarters in Savusavu.
"For special maintenance, we have identified some quarters that need upgrading next year."
Mr Falepau said special maintenance would be carried out on water and sewer lines on Taveuni.
"We are also looking at maintaining the lines in Wainigata and Lekutu in Bua.
"Our field work regarded as urgent maintenance is expected to start in January.
"Some projects will eventuate and other new ones will be implemented depending on the funds allocated."
The department has completed the construction of six lighthouses in Mali waters in Macuata with an allocation of $1.3million, including one lighthouse on Koro Island.
