A WATER committee will be set up on Kavewa and Kia islands in Macuata Province next year to look after their newly-commissioned desalination plants.
Kavewa Village headman Emosi Time said they were in the process of setting up a committee.
He said the committee played an important role because it would be tasked with taking care of the plant.
Mr Time said it was only proper for them to ensure that the plant was well looked after because it was something they had sought for a long time.
Kia villager Akuila Tutora shared similar sentiments, saying they would set up a committee next year.
The two plants were commissioned on the islands a fortnight ago.
Government's assistance with the plants that turns salt water into drinking water is a dream come true for the children, elders and families of the two islands.
