PEOPLE of Vanua Levu who've had difficulty securing funding assistance can expect some relief from the government's Northern Development Program from next year.

The program has been allocated $1.5million for the new year.

The revelation was made by acting Commissioner Northern Alipate Bolalevu at the heads of department meeting in Labasa yesterday.

"Those farmers, potential and sustainable income-generating project owners, can apply to be part of this grant," he said.

"They can always visit the NDP office for further information. The component is compulsory to fund the full project cost of those who applied.

"This grant is only for people on Vanua Levu as we work towards improving their livelihoods and also eradicating poverty."

Mr Bolalevu said many people had benefited from the program over the past years.

He said the government had set aside $220,000 in grants for the operation of the Integrated Human Resources Development Program (IHRDP) in the North next year.

He said the full grant program would fund community-based and income-generating projects in Macuata and Bua.
