GOOD news for Lautoka residents because a special event has been organised by the city council to welcome the new year.

This was confirmed by city special administrator Praveen Bala yesterday.

Mr Bala said the event — Ra Ra Rumble would be held at Narara Parade and there would be a live band.

"There will be lots of entertainment and a fireworks display will be held when we count down to 2014."

Mr Bala said the council was holding the event for the benefit of the people.

"It was a last minute decision to hold this because we were on standby as there was a tropical depression over the Fiji group earlier but as soon as the warning was lifted, we decided to go ahead with this."

The Christmas season was successful for the Sugar City with record sales.

Mr Bala said Ba would not be left behind in the celebrations.

"The Ba Town Council, in conjunction with Riverside Carnival, is organising an event 'dance Ba dance' to welcome the new year and say goodbye to 2013.

"This will be held in front of the Ba Town Council building and people can expect a night filled with entertainment."

The event starts from 8pm and ends at 1am.

"This is for the people of Ba and everyone can join the celebrations."
