Water woes continue

FRUSTRATED residents of Valebasoga outside Labasa Town have lost their patience with authorities following intermittent water supply to the area for the past three months.

Valebasoga resident, Mohammed Taiyab said they had spoken with the relevant authorities but nothing had been done so far.

Describing the situation Mr Taiyab said: "The water supply here is cut off during the daytime and sometimes we do not even get water at night having to go without water for the whole day.

"It is really frustrating because we need water to cook, wash and it is very much part of a healthy lifestyle. We have notified the relevant authorities but nothing has been done about our plea so far."

Another resident Savaira Saurara said they had suffered a lot. The 38-year-old Bua native said: "For us women water plays a major role in our lives and especially the running of our day-to-day family livelihoods."

Questions sent to the Water Authority of Fiji early last week remained unanswered when this edition went to press.
