FASHION has always captivated Akata Cawi but a busy family life kept her from pursuing her dream of becoming a designer.
Last week, at the age of 48, she launched her brand new line Juvou Ni Rei Creations at Wailoaloa Beach Resort in Nadi.
"I had always loved different prints and sewing but I was always busy as I was with my husband, helping him and then looking after my children," the mother of three said.
"When my youngest child went to university, I had a lot of free time. So I have been working on these designs for the past two years.
"My daughter encouraged me to pursue my dreams and I have been inspired by that.
"I have named the design line after my daughters."
Cawi specialises in making sulu and jaba and shirts.
"My clothes can sell from $20 to $30 because if I am using Samoan prints, then the clothes will be expensive."
Cawi said a common trend in the country was the lack of clothes for plus-size women.
"Going into shops, I usually notice that there are clothes for sizes 10 and 12 women but the sizes 14, 16, 18 and 20 get left behind.
"Keeping that in mind, I have designed my clothes for plus-size women as well."
Cawi's designs and clothes are also available via Facebook.
