IT is anticipated to be a new year's celebration with a difference.

Organised by the Gracefield Christian Fellowship, the Lami new year celebration is targeting youths with the aim of putting them on a positive track.

Church pastor Samisoni Vatani said the purpose of the celebration was to get people together, particularly youths.

"We want the youths to celebrate the new year in a positive way rather than being pulled into the celebrations of the world like mardi gras and other things," he said.

"The celebration has been organised by the church in conjunction with some gospel singers and others, youth groups in Lami and the business community.

"We will deliver a different message to the youths.

"If we start the new year celebration with a positive mind-set, we will be positive into the new year."

Mr Vatani said the celebration would be the first step for a bigger event in the future, saying awareness programs on HIV/AIDS, drugs and other issues would be held.

The celebration will start at the Harbour Point in Lami at 5pm on December 31 and will end at 2am on January 1, 2014.
