THE Nasinu Teachers College (NTC) is hosting a FUTSAL tournament next month to help in the development of the sport.

The tournament, which will accommodate 16 teams, will be held on January 4 at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.

Club president Ajay Bhan said the day-long event was aimed at raising the profile of the five-a-side soccer in the country.

He said it was also a fundraiser for the club for the upcoming season.

"We also hope through this tournament to raise the profile of FUTSAL. There isn't much happening about it so it's a good opportunity to promote one of the fastest growing sports."

Bhan said 11 teams have confirmed their participation.

They include top FUTSAL teams in Southern Forest, Lokia, Wainadoi and Narere.

"This is our first year of hosting the tournament and we hope to do this annually."

Registration is $100 per team with the winner to walk away with $300 and a trophy while the runner-up takes a trophy and $200.
