THE Ba Town Council will launch a year-long celebration to mark 75 years of the municipality in February next year.
Ba, Lautoka and Tavua special administrator Praveen Bala said the celebrations would also include for the first time ever, citizens awards which will be given to people who had made significant contributions to Ba.
"Ba is a special place because it is a township steeped in history and has quite a number of success stories of triumphs through hardships," he said.
"The township has prospered and progressed through the able guidance and contribution of many residents.
"This is in all arenas, from business entrepreneurs through to those who gave name and fame through their outstanding performances in sporting and other activities."
Mr Bala said taking this into consideration, the Ba Town Council considered it a duty to recognise the contribution made by courageous citizens and to give them awards for their dedication and sacrifice which contributed significantly to the development of Ba.
"A committee will be formed to draw up a program with members of Riverside Carnival organisation spearheading the celebration."
The year-long celebration will encourage the participation of schools, corporate bodies and other parties.
