MOTORISTS who drink and drive during this festive season have been warned they will not be spared by the police.
Police traffic director Senior Superintendent Mahesh Mishra said anyone found driving under the influence of alcohol would be taken into custody to await the next available court sitting.
He said they had beefed up security in an attempt to prevent lives being taken away because of the carelessness of some.
"If you plan on drinking, please, don't drive. Catch a cab or have a designated driver available.
"Pedestrians who are also under the influence of alcohol are a major threat to motorists which is why we are also sending a reminder to them."
SSP Mishra said pedestrians should be considerate of motorists and not put their lives at risk by being complacent about their safety.
Police chief operations officer ACP Rusiate Tudravu said the festive season would only be celebrated in a good manner if people adhered to police advisories and always prioritise the safety of their family and loved ones.
