THE Fiji Rugby Union has called on all national squad members to show commitment to training during the festive season to ensure they remain within the elite group.

"All national squad reps Fijiana, Fiji 7s, Warriors, Fiji under-20s are to attend training at all HPU gyms on Mondays and Fridays from 2pm till 5pm for the next two weeks," the FRU said in a statement.

"They are to get their fitness programs from the gyms and do their own training on other days.

"Commitment to training and desire to represent the nation will be gauged through fitness testing in the first and second weeks of January 2014."

Flying Fijians coach Inoke Male reiterated the warning with his players.

He said the pride of wearing the Fiji jumper would be at stake for players because there would be no supervision at training during this time of the year.

"We all know that it's the festive season, so enjoy yourself but remember that you must be loyal to your training program," he said.

He said the next fitness test on January 14 would distinguish players that were loyal to the training program.

"We will be able to know which player is giving his best and who is loyal to the rugby jersey during the next test."

Male has a hectic schedule starting with the PRC in February. The Flying Fijians play the Cook Islands in the Oceania Rugby World Cup playoff.

"We have heaps of new players in the PRC squad this year. These are future Flying Fijians in the next three to four years. We need to get them now and create a pathway to the Flying Fijians."
