A SPECIAL police taskforce has been put together in the Northern Division to handle backlog cases and fresh accident reports.

The highway and traffic officers have joined forces to monitor all hot spot areas on our roads as part of the special Christmas operation.

Divisional police commander Northern SSP Naulumatua Lutunacaucau yesterday said their focus was to ensure a crime-free festive season this year.

"The traffic officers will be monitoring the hot spot areas such as Tabia, Korosomo and Wailevu while the taskforce will deal with backlog and fresh accident cases. We are also focusing on raid operations, creating awareness to motorists and monitoring urban and rural areas," he said.

"This operation will continue until the end of next month."

SSP Lutunacaucau said they had increased their visibilities in almost all the places on Vanua Levu.

"We want everyone to celebrate their Christmas and new year in style and the last thing we want is accidents and other criminal activities. We are on the lookout as we have embarked on a 12-hour shift until next month."
