ORGANISERS of a popular monthly flea market in Lautoka spread the festive cheer to six underprivileged families in the Sugar City on Saturday.
The Makete Grove Committee visited the families and gave $600 worth of groceries as part of its community development work.
"The aim of organising a flea market-styled set-up was borne from the idea to revive our beautiful city of Lautoka and align to it all the development that is taking place," said spokeswoman Teresa Ali.
"With Christmas just around the corner, we decided to visit and share the true spirit of the festival with the neediest families that we identified in Lautoka."
Ms Ali said the committee established the monthly markets to support unemployed youths and home-based individuals who are budding artists and entrepreneurs to showcase and sell goods at reasonable prices.
"Our markets would not have been possible without the support of Courts Fiji Ltd, Williams & Gosling, Fiji Airways, POPS, Punjas, Coca-Cola, Merchant Finance, Goodman Fielder and the city council."
