THE Fiji Police Force Band performed at hospitals in the Western Division yesterday, bringing the spirit of Christmas to those unable to spend the holiday at home or with family and friends.

West police media liaison Naina Ragigia said the band members sang Christmas carols and put on marching displays for the sick.

"This is just part and parcel of giving back to the community this festive season," she said.

"The band has been performing at all the hospitals in the West and similar displays were done in Suva last week."

Ms Ragigia said the day-long program had been a fulfilling experience for the police.

"From their side, such events are very important as they help the bond between people and the police grow.

"People have the mindset that whenever they see any police officers, they are intimidated or think they are in trouble but we want the public to approach us with any problems that they have.

"Law enforcement is better when we have the full support of the public with us."

The band performed in Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki before heading back to Suva yesterday.
