POLICE have cleared the air saying they have no objection to nightclubs operating on the early morning hours.
Acting Police Commissioner Ravi Narayan said people had the right to social gatherings and nightclub owners were allowed to operate until the early morning hours provided they have the required approval from concerned authorities.
This is after queries were raised that some nightclubs were still open until 6am.
"We have no objection to the nightclub opening hours," Mr Narayan said.
"Our role is to make sure that peace is maintained at all times. If the law is there for them to operate for long hours so be it but people must behave.
"There is an opportunity for people to come together and socialise but again their responsibility is to behave and they should try not to turn happiness into sorrow.
"We are the custodian of the law, whatever the law directed we are here to follow, we are not here to comment on the law , our responsibility is to uphold the law even if the nightclubs closes at 6am."
He also took time out to talk to nightclub security person during his night patrol in Lautoka on Saturday.
