TWO Fijian players will represent Cricket Fiji in the New Zealand under-17 national competition next month.
Wellington sent an invitation to Cricket Fiji which selected Saimoni Tuitoga, 16, and Metuisela Beitaki, 17, to fly the national flag at the competition.
The John Wesley College students will depart for New Zealand on January 12 to participate in the week-long event starting on January 14.
"The boys will train and contest a number of practice matches with the Wellington side, before the start of the official tournament," Cricket Fiji marketing and communications officer Laura Macintosh said.
"The tournament proper will consist of three two-day matches, and two one-day matches."
Cricket Fiji's high performance manager Joe Rika added it was a fantastic exposure for the boys, not just because the tournament would comprise of the best under-age players New Zealand but they would also gain more experience playing on a turf wicket.
The duo was also part of the Fiji U19 side, which contested the International Cricket Council's East-Asia Pacific U19 Trophy in Queensland, Australia earlier this year.
