HEAVY rain did not hamper business operations and traffic in the Northern town of Labasa yesterday.

Even though there were reports of flooded rivers and creeks, acting commissioner Northern Alipate Bolalevu said businesses operated normally and roads and bridges were opened to all traffic.

"No major reports of damage have been brought to my attention or any road or bridge closed to traffic," he said.

"Heavy rain was experienced in the morning until midday but the weather was fine in the afternoon.

"Right now, we have not set up a team to look after the weather condition however, we are closely monitoring the situation on the ground. This condition will be experienced in the next few days."

A weather report obtained from the Commissioner Northern's office yesterday stated that rainfall collected was 9.5mm, wind speed at 15 knots which was for the whole of Vanua Levu.

Mr Bolalevu has advised parents and guardians to look after their children well and monitor their movements.
