SECONDARY school students Kaveni Dabenaise and Kameli Yalovigau were surprised to be included in the Fiji Warriors extended squad to prepare for the Pacific Rugby Cup next year.
The duo impressed Flying Fijians head coach Inoke Male while playing for their respective schools during the Southern Zone Deans competition earlier this year.
Yesterday, they were part of the Warriors fitness test at the Fiji Rugby Union High Performance Unit gym in Suva.
Dabenaise of Nasinu Secondary School and Ratu Sukuna Memorial School's Yalovigau both play at fly half.
Dabenaise captained Nasinu at this year's Deans competition and was also part of the Fiji under-18 team that beat New Zealand during its Australia tour last September.
"It's a great experience to train alongside some of the top players in the country and I am looking forward to learn more," 18-year-old Yalovigau said.
Dabenaise said he could not believe he was training with some of Fiji's top players.
Male said he wanted to expose the duo to another level of rugby.
"Both of these players play first five-eighth. I saw them during the southern zone competition so I decided to rope them in to get a feel for the environment at this level," Male said.
"This is an area or position that we lack in the national team."
