THE huge turnout at the Nadroga rugby under-20 trials earlier this week has impressed the team management.
About 120 players attended the trials last Wednesday, mostly players who featured in the Fiji Secondary School Deans competition.
Nadroga Rugby Union president Tiko Matawalu said they had selected 60 players to prepare for the upcoming season.
He said players from secondary school heavyweights Queen Victoria School, Ratu Kadavulevu School and Lelean Memorial School made up the core of the trialists.
"We are very pleased with the turnout during the trials," he said.
"Most of our very own Nadroga boys who attend RKS, QVS and Lelean came for the trials.
"It is good to witness the interest from players coming out in numbers to try to don the Nadroga jumper."
The Nadroga U20 side failed to make the Digicel Cup semi-finals this season.
"The first round default loss to Naitasiri proved costly for the Stallions.
Matawalu said they had a new season ahead.
"We faced a lot of problems this season. Our U20 missed out on the semi-finals but now it's back to our preparation phase.
"We want to improve and lift our performance to another level, so everything starts off here with our off-season programs."
The former Nadroga rugby skipper said the 60 players had been given training programs.
