Three-way battle for top award

THE Player of the Year award for the champion Nadroga rugby team is a three-way battle.

Towering lock forward Manoa Tamaya, mobile prop forward Peni Ravai and rookie Savenaca Rawaca are the three candidates for the top award which will be held at the Outrigger Resort tonight.

The trio have not missed a game for Nadroga this season, having played all 13 Digicel Cup matches and the Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy challenge match against Tailevu.

Try-scoring machine Rawaca has been in super form after filling in the huge boots of veteran Jonetani Ratu at inside-centre this season where he stamped his authority as the next star for the Stallions.

Tamaya's high workrate and line-out dominance will have added weight on the scale while Ravai's mobility will cause a nightmare for the officials to decide who this year's Player of the Year recipient will be. Ratu won the award last year while Aca Ratuva and Josaia Lotawa shared the spoils in 2011.
