TODAY'S national women's cricket competition will help Cricket Fiji identify a set of players it can form an age grade team with.

Four teams will compete in the round-robin competition at Suva's Albert Park which Cricket Fiji (CF) high performance manager Josefa Rika said would be good.

"The competition will have current and former national reps as well as a team we selected from the inaugural secondary schools girls competition and a team from the West," he said.

"We are looking to select 13 girls to form an age grade team to work together and compete in the 2014 team against the other best women's cricket teams in the country."

Rika said while there were no international competitions for the women, they were looking at introducing girls to similar placement projects as they've been doing with the boys.

"The main aim is to build towards the 2015 Pacific Games and an East Asia Pacific Womens tournament late next year."
